but instead, help them reveal the greatest version of themselves.

Let’s talk about it! Maybe even on the beach? Safe Harbor Coastal Counseling offers walk and talk therapy as well as traditional in-office sessions. The office space is a completely judgement free zone! Do you feel like you can’t be open about your life struggles and are trying to figure out an open space to go through this journey? We are here for you to hold the space and listen.

It is exactly what you read walking and talking during your therapy session, rather than being enclosed in an office room, or sitting in designated chairs. Being in an office can feel quite intense for some clients, to have the therapist sit opposite them. Walking next to each other, side-by-side, even with the social distancing guidelines in the current climate, can for some feel more equal and less formal. However, walking isn’t a must, sitting down somewhere in nature is also an option. It means doing therapy outdoors, in nature, often including or bringing nature and movement into the sessions. I have an office right outside the beach for this specific option to not only give the client the option for this therapy but to also bring the healing powers of water and nature.

In the late 1980s, Francine Shapiro discovered a connection between eye movement and persistent upsetting memories. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders.

In treatment, the therapist uses theraplay guides the parent and child through playful, fun games, developmentally challenging activities, and tender, nurturing activities. The very act of engaging each other in this way helps the parent regulate the child's behavior and communicate love, joy, and safety to the child. It helps the child feel secure, cared for, connected and worthy.
